Determining the Southern Border (1906)

    The southern border of Israel with Egypt, which is today a recognized international border, was determined by the Ottoman-British agreement of 1 October 1906. This border, called the Rafah-Aqaba Line, runs in an almost straight line from the Rafah area in the present Gaza Strip to a point near Taba on the Gulf of Aqaba/Eilat. It was imposed by the British upon the Ottoman Empire, by then weakened and crumbling, after a long dispute over the border line between the Ottomans and Egypt.
